It's my pleasure to welcome a new author to this blog -- one whose work might actually be directly beneficially to human society.
Dr. Susan Perkins is an expert on the systematics and taxonomy of
Plasmodium, the nasty little parasite the causes Malaria. She's based at the
American Museum of Natural History where she's currently Assistant Curator in the Division of Invertebrate Zoology and a member of the
Sackler Institute for Comparative Genomics. In addition to her expertise in invertebrate systematics, parasite biology, and comparative genomics, Susan brings much potential for insight into the fascinating minds of those rare creatures known as the capital 'C' Cladists.

Welcome Susan. You should be happy that Glor did not alter your picture in your his introduction post.
You know Tom, some people have assumed that the can of tomato juice in your photo was used to conceal a can of beer. Just so nobody gets the wrong impression, this was not the case at all: Tom's hand was actually empty before my alteration. I added the tomato juice because Tom and, to the best of my knowledge, all Yale professors, love to drink tomato juice.
At the risk of starting something, I have to have to strenuously object to the old stereotype of Yale professors as a cabal of effete, tomato-juice sipping elitists. I personally have witnessed these people consume a wide variety of beverages, ranging from V8 to Clamato. It's time for the "lycopersi-cution" to stop.
Welcome to the nerd ranch, Susan!
